Rain, rain, go away…
While we wish for the rain to go away and for the sunny days to come so we can go outside and enjoy hours playing in our backyards and the local parks, I’ve put together a list of some of my favourite things for kids for spring and summer.
Here are some great new toys that make excellent gifts and help keep your kids entertained for hours on end, some great sun-care products and a fun outing idea for those of you who live in the GTA.
In our house, PLAYMOBIL is one of those brands that we tend to keep forever. The toys are timeless and provide hours of fun, for kids young and old. Just a few weeks ago when my nieces, ages 5 and 8 were over, they took over our PLAYMOBIL sets and played with them the entire night. The new spring and summer sets do not disappoint. Nate has been playing with the cruise ship set almost daily since we got it. There are so many great features and details (like the sink cabinets that pull out) and a variety of accessories like life jackets, slippers, ice cream, phones, and more. The possibilities for play are endless. The details are so real in fact it had me craving going on a cruise for our next family vacation. The set retails for $132.99 and is available at Toys “R” Us, Mastermind Toys, Indigo, and Hudson’s Bay.
VTech line of toys are always great for smaller hands. They combine educational aspects with all the fun of playtime! The best part about the new vehicle toys is that they are compatible with the older Go! Go! Smart Wheels or Go! Go! Smart Friends sets. Use the electronic plane to sing songs, learn the letter ‘A’ (for airplane), fly it, and drive it along the ramp. The airplane features turning gears, folding wings, swinging doors and a sliding bead to strengthen fine motor skills. Recommended for kids ages 1 – 5. The toy retails for $25.99 and is sold at Amazon and Toys “R” Us.
Alba KIDS Continuous Spray Sunscreen
There are so many reasons to love Alba’s kids sunscreen (SPF 50+) including the fact that it has a non-mineral formulation, is fragrance-free, has no oxybenzone, PABA, artificial colours, harsh preservatives, phthalates, or sulfates. However, my favourite part is that it applies evenly and smoothly so my kids don’t mind putting it on. In fact, they want to apply it themselves over and over again. A lotion based sunscreen for kids is also available (and one of my favourites) if that’s what you prefer.
New Johnson’s Head-to-Toe EXTRA Moisturizing Baby Wash and Cream
Johnson’s bedtime bath wash and lotion are one of our go-to’s in our house so I was excited to try out the all new Johnson’s Head-to-Toe extra moisturizing baby wash and baby cream. With a softer scent, the bath wash and lotion are just as gentle and leave my kids smelling so sweet! The moisture-enriched baby wash is specifically formulated for baby’s dry, sensitive skin, so you don’t have to worry about them getting dry or irritated.
Last month I took my oldest son Kyle to see Munschtime! at Young People’s Theatre in Toronto. It was our first time at the theathre and I was really impressed. We went to a Matinee show (yes, we played hooky), and the audience was filled with school children. The atmosphere was relaxed and interactive. It was a perfect setting for kids to enjoy theatre without feeling they are being “shushed” every second and without the hefty fee of a regular theater show. Check out the Your People’s Theatre’s upcoming line up which includes shows for both the young (as young as 3 months) to teens and productions like Beauty and the Beast and The Secret Garden. I can’t wait to select our next show together with my son.
Disclosure: I received all of these products and tickets to the play for free for review purposes. Opinions shared in this post are my own.
