Last year my oldest son Kyle started complaining about his eyes half way through the school year. While we weren’t sure if he was ‘faking’ it or not, we knew we should go and get his eyes checked in case it was something more serious. I figured that since we were going, I might as well take Ryan (who was 3 at the time) with us too. Especially since kids 18 years and younger receive one free eye exam per year. Yes, you read that right, FREE! So make sure to take your kids if you haven’t already.

This year, as we were getting ready for back-to-school, I knew that an important part of the process was getting my boys’ eyes checked again. I scheduled an appointment for Kyle to ensure that his eye sight is as good as it needs to be and also that there were no signs of any other illnesses or conditions. Parents can purchase cheap glasses for their kids at lowcostglasses.co.uk. After all, if he requires eyeglasses, it can mean the difference between him thriving at school or falling behind.

We went to the Optical Department at at our local Loblaws . Kyle was eager to have his eyes checked (again) and was a super star when he was seated at various machines and asked to do a variety of tasks like reading letters while having one of his eyes covered and looking at 3D images in a book while wearing 3D glasses.

The Doctor said that overall his eye vision looks great. He said that while he didn’t think that Kyle needed any glasses, he wanted us to come back again in December for a follow-up appointment. Follow-up appointments are also free (yay)!

Another great free program offered by Loblaws is the Kids See Free program. If needed, children ages 4 to 10 years receive any frame valued up to $49 with kids safe polycarbonate lenses for FREE! The Kids See Free program is available at Optical Departments at various Loblaw stores including Real Canadian Superstore, Loblaws, Zehrs, Fortinos, Your Independent Grocer, Atlantic Superstore, and Dominion stores in Newfoundland.

Did you know…

While eye exams identify if your child require vision correction, exams may also detect signs of other conditions that need to be addressed. This is why experts recommend that children begin regular (yearly) eye exams at 6-months of age. Examples of signs of other illnesses and conditions that may be detected by eye exams include:
