We live downtown, on the subway line so you would think that we use public transportation all the time, but you would be wrong. If you’ve ever tried to take a stroller on a subway where an elevator doesn’t exist, you’ll know what I mean. In addition to the stroller, add another kid (or two), a huge bag filled with diapers, snacks and toys and you’re basically headed into a nightmare situation.

Sleeping Baby, No Elevators… now what?

Luckily, we live in a walking neighborhood and most of the things we require for day-to-day living including a variety of grocery stores, restaurants, clothing stores, toy stores, dollar stores, and coffee shops, are within walking distance. However, that doesn’t mean that we don’t drive and often find ourselves driving downtown to see a show, sports game, attend an event and so on…

Driving is often easier, especially when the whole family is involved and the weather is not cooperative for long walks. What’s not so easy about driving downtown is parking. It’s often hard to locate parking spots near where you have to go or just any parking in general. When street parking, you either have to fiddle for change or leave the kids in the car while you go and pay. Either way, it’s not ideal!

If you’re like me, or you drive all over the city regularly and struggle with parking, you’re in luck! A great new app that takes care of the burden of downtown parking was recently launched. HonkMobile helps you locate a lot based on your location and pay for your parking without stepping out of your car. I tried it out this past week while taking my kids to a class downtown. I didn’t even realize that there was parking right behind the building where we were going. As luck would have it, my one-year old fell asleep in the car and I didn’t bring a stroller. I was so grateful for the app and was easily able to carry my son indoors without waking him up.

Another great feature is that I received a text message alerting me that my time is about to expire. To be honest, I didn’t even realize that I only paid for an hour’s parking. I quickly added another hour through the app. I didn’t have to rush out, carrying two kids, or worry about parking tickets. Not to mention, it was a rainy day, so my hair is thankful too!
