The kids might be beyond excited because they are out of school for a week but as parents, you might be a little worried! If you don’t have any care lined up for them, you might have even taken the week off to stay home with the kids; a staycation. But lets be honest, staycations can be a bit daunting if you don’t plan for them appropriately. Here are some tips and ideas on how to fill your time over March break so you can keep your sanity while achieving super-mom status!

1. Space it out. You know the saying “don’t put all your eggs in one basket”? This is all about risk planning and I should know a thing or two about this because I used to be an Internal Auditor in my past life. Same is true for parenting over March Break. Don’t plan 10 activities for Monday and have zero planned for Friday. Space out your activities to include one major event a day and plan for a few smaller activities daily in case you need to fill in some time. A major activity can include an outing to an exhibit, a museum, the zoo, an event or a show. Smaller activities can include going to the park, doing arts and crafts, going to a drop-in playground and baking. The key is to space is out. I mean, we’re talking about five day (nine if you count the weekend before and after), so plan accordingly!

2. Plan an indoor excursion. Take a trip to a museum, gallery or science centre (to name a few). Whatever your children’s interest may be – from hockey, science, art, shoes or dinosaurs – there is an exhibit that is right for you and your family.

3. Go see a show! Many touring companies plan their shows in big cities around the school-break. For the past four years, I’ve taken the boys to see Disney on Ice either during Christmas or March break. You can also find your children’s favourite TV characters (like Bubble Guppies and Paw Patrol) performing or making an appearance in a variety of retail stores.

4. Plan an outdoor excursion. I don’t know about your kids, but mine need to blow off some steam daily and the best way to do that is to get them outdoors. Luckily, March weather tends to be on the warmer side which is a great time to go on a family hike or visit a big park that includes a playground, trails for biking or hiking, space for a picnic and perhaps even a small zoo (High Park in Toronto is one of my favourites). For Playground Painting Ideas, you can visit https://playgroundpaintingideas.co.uk/.

You can also try out Geocaching to help motivate the kids to get outdoors and stay outdoors. If it rains (which it often does in March), dress your kids in their rain gear and head outdoors for some puddle jumping. You might want to dress appropriately too as I bet you won’t be able to resist joining them!

Tip: If you have family members who are motion sensitive, Gravol Quick Dissolve Chewables (available for kids and adults) are an effective and convenient option to treat nausea, vomiting and dizziness, so you can get there more comfortably and with less worry. (Don’t take Gravol chewables and drive, as Gravol Quick Dissolve Chewables may cause drowsiness).

5. At-home makeovers. Be your own glam squad and play pretend with your kids. My boys love getting their nails done and doing each other’s nails and I love it when they play with my hair. So grab those nail polishes, make-up powders, sparkle eye shadows, styling tools and last but not least…Batiste Dry Shampoo! It’s perfect to use between washes and easy to use. Applying quick burst revitalizes hair and removes any excess oil, adding body and texture. I even tried when I straightened my hair and hadn’t washed it for a few days and thought it worked amazing!)

6. Crafts, puzzles and games galore. Now you have time to get into a new project with your kids that could take a few hours or few days. I hope to be working on my yearly cottage collage and I’m looking forward to getting some assistance from my boys who are all too eager to cut and glue!

7. Try new recipes. While baking with your kids can make even the calmest of people tense, doing it with no time pressure and knowing that it won’t be served up for guests, should reduce some of that stress. Bake an easy cookie recipe or try something new that you’ve been meaning to make for a while. For me, I hope to make a batch of my favourite morning muffin that’s delicious and healthy! In addition to all the good food you’ll cook up, make sure all family members get the get their daily recommended nutrients by taking Vitafusion Men’s or Women’s Complete Multivitamin and Lil’Critters Gummy Vites for kids.
