Back in public school, I had a friend who was born on February 29th. It was special, but unfortunately, she only got to celebrate her birthday every 4 years (sort of). I do remember that it was such a big deal when she was finally able to celebrate on her actual birthday! She was a good sport about it, claiming that she was only three years old when the rest of us were twelve.

This year is also a leap year, providing us with an extra 24 hours… and aren’t we always wishing for extra time during the day to get things done? I know I wish I could use an extra hour or two each day to either write, read, watch a show, relax, organize or catch up on my sleep.

If you’re eager to take advantage of the extra day, here are some ideas from myself and my friends at Church & Dwight:

Go hiking: Chances are, you’re not too far from a national park or scenic trail that is optimal for a winter hike. This is a great way to take in the fresh air and enjoy the beautiful scenery – not to mention it’s great exercise. You should also try Geocaching (finding hidden “treasure” by using GPS coordinates) to really get your kids excited and excited to stay longer than normal, especially during winter weather conditions. Trying to keep up with your kids isn’t always easy – and is often tougher the next day when those aches and pains set in. Topical pain relievers like RUB·A535™ Extra Strength Heating Cream have you covered. It starts to work on contact and provides fast acting pain relief of muscle and joint pain.

Put away your phone: Since normally this day doesn’t “exist”, you can try enjoying the day technology free. For most of us (myself included), it’s hard to put away the phone for a few hours, let alone a whole day. However, if you’re in a different state of mind about the extra day, this might be easier to do. Imagine what you can do with all of that “free” time. Not to mention, you can enjoy the moment with your loved ones or just enjoy those things you’ve been putting off like reading a book or magazine. I’m going to give this a try myself!
