For the love of Barbie

While I don’t have too many childhood memories (my brain works in mysterious ways), I will always remember my Barbies and my Barbie doll house. Barbie brought me companionship when my friends were too busy to play. It also frequently brought friends over to my house as we all loved playing with my Barbies. I loved nothing more than playing pretend and dressing up Barbie.

I also clearly remember the day I had saved enough money to purchase the Barbie Dream House. Even back then (we’re talking about mid 80’s here), it was AMAZING. The Dream house included three floors, an elevator and more. I played with that dream house for years, every year adding a few more accessories like a bathtub, car and kitchen.

As a parent, my dream is to raise well-mannered kids who become happy and responsible adults. Part of that is encouraging them to dream big and to let them know that through hard work and determination, they can be anything they want to be. At the moment, those dreams for my boys include being a hockey player or a baseball player. Most importantly, I just keep encouraging them to keep practicing and working hard. It’s a life lesson that will get them far no matter what they want to be as they keep growing.
