I remember when my oldest son turned six months. I knew it meant we could start feeding him solids. I tried to delay it for as long as possible and was able to do so for a little while since we were going on vacation. I knew though that once we got back home, I would have to go all in. The problem was, the whole thing was very intimidating. As a first time mother, I didn’t really know what I was doing, and since all I did was hover over my son every minute of every day, I didn’t (think) I had any free time to cook him food from scratch. Besides that, I was a newbie cook. I hardly knew how to cook for my husband and myself, how could I possibly make a healthy, easy and tasty meal for my son. Instead, I turned to trusty pre-made baby food in a jar. I even purchased banana puree’s… that’s how “scared” I was to make him food for scratch.

I have come a long way since then and my third son is lucky enough to get the benefits of getting an “experienced” mom. Since the birth of my oldest son Kyle almost five years ago, my cooking confidence has grown and I now enjoy it. I’ve also become more confident in making my baby’s food from scratch at home. While I don’t think there is anything wrong with buying prepared baby food (and I still do it when we’re on the go), I do believe there are a whole lot of benefits to making it from scratch . Mainly, you know EXACTLY what you are feeding your kid. For me, that means no added salt or sugar. All I do is take a portion of the pre-cooked food that I’m going to be making for the rest of the family and put it aside to be steamed and purred separately.

Besides my confidence growing, one of my go to products that helped me make this processes as easy as possible is the Baby Brezza food processor. It’s a one step food maker that steams and purees food in a few minutes, even before your family’s meal is ready to be served. In fact, you can pretty much put the food in the machine, step away for 10 – 25 minutes, and TA-DA, your baby’s food is ready. Best of all, all of the parts can be put in the dishwasher. The Baby Brezza also defrosts and reheats food eliminating the need to use a microwave. You can find out how easy it is to use the Baby Brezza in the video that I prepared.
