I thought I would do something a little different this time around. I gave someone else the opportunity to review the all new Alcatel Pop 7 Tablet. My mom’s been itching for a new tablet to replace her old one and I thought this would be a fair trade.

Her review in exchange for a new tablet. I should also mention, she pretty much grabbed the best design tablet out of my hand before I could say “NO”. I also knew that my mom, a former teacher, would put the tablet to the test and give me honest feedback. Ask my husband, she’s not one to shy away from the truth or constructive criticism 🙂

My mom uses her tablet for everything. It’s her desktop / laptop replacement. It’s where she checks her e-mail, listens to the news, watches movies, surfs the web and does her online banking. Also, my mom types in two languages (Hebrew and English) and takes her tablet with her almost everywhere she goes. Here’s her review of what she thought of the tablet after a month of use…

Design

The Alcatel Pop 7 is a funky new tablet to hit the market. It has a nice wide screen (7-inch) but the tablet itself is very lightweight, thin and small enough to fit in your purse; even a small one. My mom uses a shoulder sling purse and the tablet fits in nicely. While my mom didn’t really comment on this, one of my favourite design features is the POP of colour on the back of the tablet. We got the yellow one but the tablet comes in a variety of colours including: pink, blue and black to name a few. Overall, the light weight and size of the tablet is easy to handle for both grown-ups and kids (my boys LOVE using the tablet whenever my mom is over).

Language Settings

Unlike other tablets or smartphones, the Alcatel Pop 7 already comes pre-installed with a multitude of languages making it easy to select and flip back and forth from different languages. This is ideal for those who like to type in another language other than English. My mom also noted that it was really easy for her to organize the apps into folders and move them from page to page. I’m sure this was especially useful for her since my sons made her download 100 games (literately).

Great tool for Multimedia Viewing

My mom has truly embraced the digital age. While she still reads books from the library and watches shows and movies on TV, she also loves to download and read books and watch international TV news on her tablet (she’s so with it, right?). She said that she enjoys doing both on her new Alcatel tablet because it’s easy to do and the look and feel of the tablet makes it enjoyable.

Room for improvement

While my mom has already replaced her previous tablet with the Alcatel Pop 7, she did mention that there’s a few gaffes. The first of which is the time it takes for the tablet to load up after it’s been shut-off. My two year old son felt the same when he kept saying “not working” repeatedly until the home screen came up. The other thing my mom noted is the short battery life. If she’s streaming, the battery only lasts for two hours. This is to be expected with the lightweight design and can easily be accounted for, just bring the charger along with you.
