Camp is a great way to experience life out of the city. Kids often have such fond memories of their life at camp; However, overnight camp isn’t always a great fit for everyone (both children or parents) Luckily, there are some great day camp options in the GTA, including Camp Robin Hood (located in Markham). While I have several friends that have attended this camp when they were younger or have their little ones in this camp, I’ve never been there myself, until this week. I was thrilled to be invited to attend the Camper in Training program with my boys."Camp

Within the first few minutes of my visit I was extremely impressed. I felt like I was at overnight camp but I was in the city (sort-of). The grounds were spectacular, with lots of room to run around and each section had several cabins in it for the kids to store their gear for the day. There was a huge swimming pool area with multiple pools, a barn house where many of the Camper in Training programs were held, tennis courts and cabins for indoor activities like arts and crafts. There was even a small petting zoo and a pond for water activities. Most importantly, the kids were genuinely happy. Seeing lots of happy kids singing and running around brought a big smile to my face."Camp

While waiting for the other children to arrive, my kids were warmly greeted by two instructors and were able to play with the water table. After circle time, we went to the low ropes area where an instructor lead us through a series of activities including balancing on the “Whale” and the log. Afterwards, we created a very cute sheep craft that was easy enough for all kids to do (with minimal support from their caregivers). This was followed by a dolphin snack that we got to make and eat using bananas and grapes. I have to say this was a huge hit with my older son who isn’t always a big fan of fruit. We then headed off to the crafts building where instructors lead us through a paint and sand sensory art exercise. The kids had a blast making beautiful painted plates using their hands. We had a quick snack, got changed and headed to the pool. A lifeguard came and lead the kids in the pool. While he tried his best to get the kids to float and kick and dunk, the kids preferred to just hang out in the shallow end, which was just as nice. Before we knew it, the bell rang and it was time to leave the pool and get ready to head home."Camp

"CampOverall, I was really impressed with this parent (or caregiver / grandparent) and tot summer camp program. It was a great way to show my sons what day camp is all about while they are comfortable since I was able to stay with them. For only $30 a day, the program is offered to kids ages 18 – 40 months and runs every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 AM to 12:30 PM until August 15th, 2014. The program is different every day so even if you come for every session, you should expect to experience something new (i.e. sports activities, canoeing, etc…). You can sign-up in advance or the night before (based on availability)."Camp
