It’s no secret my family and I are big fans of Netflix. Not only does it have some of the top-rated shows, it includes lots of great options for kids. We got Netflix almost a year ago just in time for the release of Arrested Development. While we were giddy with excitement to watch our favourite shows on Netflix, we didn’t anticipate how amazing it would be for our son, Kyle. We spent a great part of the summer at the cottage and when the weather isn’t cooperating, there isn’t much to do indoors. That’s where Netflix came in, or came to the rescue I should say. This was also helpful for keeping our son busy while he was waking up at 6 AM in the morning, EVERY MORNING.

Luckily, some of Kyle’s favourite shows are pretty educational. Before Netflix, we never heard of Super Why! a show about phonics, learning the ABC’s, and reading. Seriously, what parent wouldn’t love this show. Another one of my son’s favourite shows is Team Umizoomi and guess what? It’s also very educational… it’s a show about numbers, patterns and shapes. Kyle fell in love with both of these shows immediately, frequently asking to watch them and he found them both on Netflix

It’s easy to see why we fell in love with Netflix. While spring is “officially” here, spring-like weather is not! The polar vortex had us hibernating indoors all winter, which made it really hard to keep the boys occupied and busy. While I always try to be active with my boys even if we’re inside, it was nice to be able to turn to Netflix for help a few hours a day. Some of Kyle’s other favourite kid shows include Bubble Guppies and Leap Frog Number Game.

We also had a family movie night over March break. We made popcorn and huddled up on our bed with Kyle and watched Turbo. The movie was so cute and fun, that even my husband (who for reasons unknown to me is a big critic of animated movies) enjoyed it. I’m excited that starting in April, Netflix will release Turbo Fast the series. The show is sure to be a new family favourite.
