While the holidays are only a few short weeks away, gift planning actually started a few months ago at our house when the Sears Wish Book arrived at our door. While the Wish Book helps most people to get in the mindset for the holidays, it helped us figure out what to get my son for his birthday. I gave my son the book and told him to circle the toys that he wanted for his birthday. Even though he pretty much circled every toy in the book it gave us the opportunity to go through the toys together to figure out exactly what he wanted.

Now that the holidays are here I find myself turning to my trusty Sears catalog. Specifically, the Toy Book, a full catalog dedicated to toys. The Sears catalogues are truly parent helpers, not just Santa’s helpers! I don’t need to stress about buying the right gift because my son can show me exactly what he wants. The catalog also provides me with one place to check out all of the latest and greatest toys on the market. As an added bonus the book gives me a nice twenty minute break while my son gets completely caught up flipping through the pages admiring the endless amounts of toys.

Not surprisingly, my son selected everything on the NHL page, even the toasters!!! Some of Kyle’s other favourite items include Jake and The Never Land Pirates: The Pirate Boat and the the Tiki Hideout, Mario Brothers and Toy Story dolls and figurines, Maisto radio-controlled cars, Nano blocks, and sports equipment galore. The book is great as it also caters to kids of all ages on your shopping list. It helped me figure out what I can buy for my younger son Ryan. He’s a budding musician just like his dad so we’ve been on the look-out for a mini-drum set. To my surprise, there were a handful of sets I could pick from. Lastly, we have a slight bias towards the Sears catalogue because my son was featured in the Sears Wish Book back in 2011! Isn’t he cute (‘E’)?
