In one arm, my husband holds our three year old, a smiley, high-energy kid with a zest for life and all things “fast”. In his other arm, he olds our sweet, smiley and much calmer eight month old son. I come in for a group hug and in the sweetest, cutest voice ever, my older son says “awwwwwwwww… our family”.

Yes, it’s cheesy, but what can I say, it’s my favourite thing in the world! I’m so grateful my sons loves to ‘snuggle’. To me, nothing cures a bad day or a sad feeling better than a hug, especially if it comes from my kids. I also find that hugs work best to sooth my kids. If my oldest son is having one of his 3-year old tantrums, after a few minutes, if he’s still upset, I walk right over, and without saying a word, I hug him and just like magic, his tears disappear and his happy demeanour returns. When my baby takes a tumble as he’s learning to crawl, I immediately rush over for a hug. It may be my mother’s instinct, but whatever it is, it works. It calms him down almost instantly. It’s also the first and last thing I do every day with my kids. Truly, there’s no better way to start a day. That’s why I knew my son would go wild when he first played with Big Hugs Elmo."big

When we first removed Elmo from the box, my oldest son spent the next ten minutes hugging him. Sure, there were a few minutes where he put his face in Elmo’s mouth (what three year old wouldn’t find that amusing), but the rest of the time he spent hugging him. And who could resist.? Elmo is the perfect size for a toddler and he’s soooooooooooooooo soft. And guess what my older son did first thing this morning? He came down and gave Elmo a huge morning hug! It’s the sweetest sight to see. My hope is that if he’s ever upset, and we can’t sooth him right away, that he’ll hug our newest friend, Elmo.
