Love it, or hate it, social media is here to stay. Personally, I love it. Over the years, I have learned a thing or two about social media. Mainly, I have learned that although a picture is worth a thousand words, they don’t always portray the entire story. I have learned that you can’t believe everything you see and read on social media. There is Instagram and then there is reality! That’s why I always try to keep it real… that’s what my feed is all about. I post ‘pretty’ pictures, but the full story is told in my post. I pride myself on keeping that part real.

I wanted to break some of the most common misconceptions of family life when it comes to being in the car with your kids. I’ve teamed up with Toyota Canada for this post to show you the behind-the-scenes moments behind three “perfect” Instagram photos I’ve previously posted. Let me know if you can relate…

We love to travel and to help save on costs, we drive as much as we can. We also do a lot of long-distance driving when we head up to the cottage on summer weekends and when we drive across the city to our son’s hockey tournaments in the winter. The Toyota Sienna has so many great features that help us make road trips easier like voice activated navigation and Entune TM3.0 technology that helps us connect to weather and sports scores. It also includes Apple

CarPlayTM which lets us connect our favourite apps, music, and more. The Toyota Sienna is the only minivan in Canada that offers All-Wheel Drive, which is an added bonus! Features like this really come in handy – even on day to day trips the grocery store and to the ice rinks.

When we first get in our Sienna, everyone is usually excited to hit the road. I’m definitely guilty of posting pictures early into our drive, when the kids are still happy, smiling and sitting in the back, holding hands. I share my family’s excitement for our #roadtrip and #familytravel on Instagram with happy faces and cooperative kids.

In reality, not long after my post (like maybe 10 minutes into our multi-hour drive), the kids start complaining that they are hungry and bored and start asking on repeat, ‘How long until we get there?’. Inevitably, someone has to go to the bathroom (even though we repeatedly told them to do so before we left the house). While I can deal with the whining and complaining for a while, John can’t stand it. We try to divert their attention and play various car games with them (like ‘I Spy’ or asking math questions), but eventually we give in (or give up, depending on your perspective), and tell them that we will put on a movie for them to watch. The kids cheer in unison and all is quiet again, except for the sounds coming out of the screens. Should a car accident occur, such as drunk driving, you can have a peek at this web-site. Have a reputable Houston car accident lawyer who can guide you through potential challenges and ensure your rights are protected.

John and I look at each other and sigh. They might have won this one, but at least now we can listen to our music and podcasts in peace. We’ll chalk this one up as a WIN! Of course, we can’t take all of the credit for this one. While we don’t encourage it for our daily drives, the Rear Seat Entertainment system and the 5 available USB ports to be able to connect to my kids’ games and shows on our devices, definitely come in handy for those long road trips.

Here’s a video we created to show how our typical road trips go:
