About three years ago, I was home alone with my three boys, solo-parenting as John was away for work. Kyle had an incident where he fell on the bathroom tiles and had a bump on his head. While I wasn’t worried (this happened before), I wanted a second opinion. However, waking up two sleeping kids and rushing them all to the ER late at night wasn’t really an option. I called Telehealth and long-story short… they were kind of useless; at least in my experience. Luckily, I have access to two doctors (my brother and Father-in-law) 24/7, so I called my brother for his opinion. Everything at the end turned out fine but what I really wanted and NEEDED in that moment was a doctor to make a house visit and reassure me. Unfortunately, a service like that wasn’t available back then (or at least I didn’t know of it).

However, that’s all about to change because MediSeen now provides that service, and more. A friend of mine recently used MediSeen’s services in an emergency situation. Here’s Melissa’s story about what happened and how MediSeen helped save the day!

I am a mother of 4 lovely and strong girls, and I am not one who typically overreacts at a sign of sickness. I would much rather prefer not having to go to the doctor, unless absolutely necessary. In this case, I had taken my daughter Eve (15 months) to her doctor, on a Friday, because she just wouldn’t eat anything and was not at all like herself for days. I left with the news that she was probably ok, but fighting something. The following day, my typically happy baby woke up with a terrible rash. I knew she needed a special cream, because my kids often had this problem. I waited at a walk in clinic for over 4 hours! The line up was ridiculous, and it just wasn’t moving. I had been told by the receptionist on multiple occasions that my daughter was next, so I stayed, but the 4 hour wait was not at all what I was expecting. It was the worst experience ever. When I finally saw the doctor, he prescribed an antibiotic cream to a very loud and weepy baby. And so another night passes, and the following day my baby isn’t better but worse. All day we wait to see if the medicine would kick in and help her feel better, but nothing was working. She could not fully close her mouth and developed a rash all over her body. There was absolutely no eating or sleeping happening and she was in complete misery. Truthfully,I was worried and terrified that it was hand, foot, and mouth disease. It has been 3 full days of yelling and crying and too many sleepless nights. We were all delirious. By 6 pm, Eve had not started feeling better, so I knew I would have to find a doctor ASAP. I couldn’t find an doctor anywhere. Finally, I went on the MediSeen website and thank goodness I did. The doctor (covered by OHIP) fit me in right away, even though his schedule was completely full. He did this just because I had a baby and he didn’t want me to have wait for the next appointment, which would have been much later. The smiley doctor came to my house and he instantly made our house calm. He was thorough and asked all the necessary questions. He was gentle with the baby and she felt comfortable in his care. Once he diagnosed her with thrush and with a fungal rash on her body, he prescribed some antibiotics. He sat with our family explaining the medication and called in a prescription for us, so we could get it ASAP. Overall our experience was impeccable. I am so grateful for the doctor and the service at MediSeen and I would use it again and again. There is nothing better than having a qualified, warm and knowledgeable doctor come directly to you, so you don’t have to wait 4 hours at a walk in, surrounded by people more ill than you and trying to calm a crying and cranky baby. MediSeen is my new favourite thing.

I also had the opportunity to try out the app. While I didn’t have a need for a doctor, I noticed that besides finding a physician, they offer so many other great services too including Chiropractor, Lactation consultant, Physiotherapist, Registered Massage Therapist and more. If you have mobility issues, you can visit https://certifiedstairlifts.co.uk/ to get the best mobility solutions that is suited to your needs.

Since I’m focusing on my health and wellness, I was curious to get some insight from a Registered Dietitian. In the app, I was able to select health professionals based on their bio and rates and then scheduled a home visit. It was that quick and easy. I met with Jessica, the Registered Dietitian that I selected, who came to my house, and she gave me so much great information and tips which I still use to this day. I was really pleased with the service provided both by Jessica and MediSeen.
