John and I have always been advocates of getting our kids their daily dose of exercise. We are always one of the last families to leave the school playground and we sign our kids up for extracurricular sports (of their choice) like hockey, baseball, soccer and ball hockey. When the weather doesn’t cooperate, we move things indoors. We’ve set up our basement as a place where the kids can shoot the puck around and play hockey any day of the year. In fact, we recently moved to a new house across from the school so our boys can have easy access to the playground any time of the day. When they get tired of that, we have a trampoline in the backyard that is always a big hit with guests. Now that I’ve also started working out at home, it has also inspired the kids to do some form of their own exercise along with me.

Between the busy schedules, getting sick, the weather not cooperating, and the fact that it’s often three kids and just one adult at home, things don’t always go as planned. However, with three boys, who seem to have endless energy, it’s important for them to get in tons of physical activity. If you’re in the same boat, read on…

To help families get inspired and get active together, YMCA of Greater Toronto is celebrating Healthy Kids Day on April 29.
