Everyone’s favourite reality-TV star, Bethenny Frankel, is coming to Toronto, Ontario this January. Bethenny is known for her role in Desperate Housewives of NY City and her SkinnyGirl product line that includes drinks, food, undergarments and workout DVDs. She’s also a New York Times best-selling author and most recently she launched her own daily talk show “Bethenny.” With so much going on, I can’t believe she has time to make an appearance in Toronto, but luckily, she is!
Bethenny has come a long way from her humble beginnings as a production assistant on one of my favourite shows growing up, Saved by the Bell. Her big break happened in 2005 when she competed on The Apprentice: Martha Stewart reality TV show and was one of two finalists. Her spunk and no-nonsense personality caught the attention of Desperate Housewives producers and she was one of the main Housewives in the New York City syndication. As a chef and lover of natural, low calorie foods, she shared her passion in her first book Naturally Thin: Unleash Your Skinnygirl and Free Yourself from a Lifetime of Dieting. She has since gone on to write three more books including a fiction novel titled Skinnydipping, which is loosely based on her life. As an entrepreneur, Bethenny created a low-calorie cocktail in 2011 that didn’t compromise on taste; Skinnygirl Margarita. While the Skinnygirl line has since been bought out by Beam Inc, Bethenny continues to collaborate with Beam and is the face of the Skinnygirl line.
Bethenny’s success definitely did not come easy and I love that she takes the time to help other female entrepreneurs. Not only does she provide them with constructive feedback, but she gives them air-time and brand recognition by having these individuals on her shows. I think the part I love best about Bethenny is that she manages to “do it all” as a parent. I’m sure Bethenny would agree that her biggest success is her beautiful daughter Bryn.
If you live in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and you want to learn more about Bethenny’s story and lessons to success, you need to attend United Jewish Appeal’s (UJA) upcoming event featuring Bethenny.
