Hand up if you’re big into celebrating Easter (ME, ME, ME!). As with many of my posts, this is one holiday that I didn’t celebrate until meeting my husband (since I’m Jewish). More specifically, I didn’t start celebrating Easter until we had kids.
The allure of hiding chocolate was so appealing for so many reasons, both to the kids and to my kid-like personality. I mean, who doesn’t enjoy a good old scavenger hunt when the end result is a bucket full of sweets. I might enjoy hiding the treats as much as I get joy out of seeing my boys’ faces light up when they find them. My three year old son Ryan is particularly excited for Easter this year. He’s been counting down for a month now and every night before bed he asks if the Easter Bunny is going to show up when he’s asleep to hide the chocolate eggs. He hasn’t quite mastered the meaning of days and time yet, so he doesn’t understand that 15 days doesn’t mean tomorrow and that tomorrow comes when he wakes up after a night of sleep.
Either way, we’re all really excited for Easter this year and I’ve even increased the anti by telling my boys that the older they get, the Easter bunny will hide the chocolate eggs in tricky-to-find spots. Meaning, instead of just hiding all of the eggs in plane sight, I’m going to start putting them behind objects (insert Dr. evil laugh and pinky to the mouth look here).
Part of celebrating any big holiday at our house also typically involves a big meal. Usually a big dinner with family but Easter is one of those holidays that I would prefer to celebrate over a big breakfast or brunch. My favourite breakfast meals to prepare include eggs, toast, beans, hash-browns and pancakes. It’s my specialty whenever we have guests staying over and now also on Easter morning. While I don’t do anything fancy with the eggs and sides, I do usually pretty-up my pancakes and the kids love it. They’re obsessed with adding toppings like sprinkles, chocolate chips and so on. To make it even more special, I’ll be serving it to them with a side of whip cream. Which in our house, is a big deal as our boys love it on top of hot chocolate, sundaes and pancakes. Gay Lea’s Regular Real Whipped Cream is made with real cream so you know it’s going to pass a kid’s taste test! It’s also Nut-Free, so you can feel safe serving it up to any of your children’s friends.
What’s your special way and / or meal of celebrating Easter?
