Hot Chocolate, cozy sweaters, warm fires, family gatherings and shopping, shopping, shopping! I may not be a big fan of the winter, but these are just a few of the things that I do love about the holiday season. I always loved gift giving. I used to try to find any excuse that I can to make a purchase for someone else. Birthday, holidays, or “just because”. There’s nothing I love more than giving (okay… and shopping). When we had kids, I knew I was in trouble. Right or wrong, I truly love spoiling my kids (without excess of course). While my kids are very good at letting me know what they want me to buy for them (you can almost say they are TOO good at this), that’s not always the case with other people’s kids. This year, I have help through Mattel’s Holiday Toys site, which includes the top holiday toys this season. This site has a selection of 28 toys that are great for children of various ages and with different likes. It helped make my toy giving to my nieces, nephews and friend’s kids easy this year.
Some of my fondest memories as a kid are playing with my Barbies. I remember the day I had saved enough to purchase the Barbie Dream House. Even back then (we’re talking about mid 80’s here), it was AMAZING. It included three floors, an elevator and more. I played with that dream house for years and I was happy to see it on Mattel’s Holiday Toys site as well. I’m sure the 21st century version has a few upgrades too! For my nieces, I selected the Barbie Glam Camper. The Camper is large enough for Barbie and her friends and it also converts into a pool. I can see my nieces enjoying hours of fun play time and making memories for years to come.
My almost two year old is currently obsessed with cars. He has a bucket full of Hot Wheels that he plays with almost hourly. He arranges them in different locations around the house, groups them by size and type and tells me which colour each car is. It’s amazing to see how creative he can get with them. Whenever we go visit friends or on holidays, we always pack a few cars with us to keep him busy. That’s why I selected a few (okay, THREE) car related toys from Mattel’s Holidays site. The Fisher-Price Little People City Skyway stands over three feet tall and has a variety of slides to send your cars down on. I can see my son spending lots of time playing with this on a daily basis. Fisher-Price toys are known for their longevity and quality and in a few years, it’ll be a great toy for my newborn.
I couldn’t resist not getting him a few Hot Wheels Race tracks toys. I selected the Super Loop Chase Race which wall mounts and will work with our other Hot Wheels sets for an even larger and longer ride. I also selected the Colour Shifters Flame Fighter Set. I know my son will be WOWed by the fact that the cars change colour in water (I remember I was when I played with it as a kid). Hopefully, he’ll want to share these toys with his older brother too.
I may have bought a lot of toys for my sons this year, but fortunately, we have a lot to celebrate. Between Hanukkah and Christmas, I can spread the gift giving out. The best part though will be seeing their reaction when they open their gifts.
Happy Gift Giving Everyone!
