March break is upon us and that means that many people are packing up their suitcases, packing up the car or heading to the airport for a nice family vacation before summer graces us. While I know of some people who headed down south for March break, I also know that just as many have opted to stay home for a Staycation. There are definitely pros and cons to each, the right decision for your family may depend on several factors including your discretionary income, the ages of your kids and your love (or lack of) for travel. I have to say that pre-kids, I would take any chance that I could to get out of town. That all changed after kids, including postponing the opening of our cottage. While we used to open it up in May, we now wait for June as the weather is more cooperative and the bugs are mostly gone. No matter what your March Break plans entail, there are great reasons for staying local and getting away. Just make sure have fun and enjoy some quality time with your family.
Vacation
1. Whether you’re exploring a new city or relaxing in a warm sandy beach, adventure awaits you wherever you go. It’s a great way to unwind and relax or to give in to your adventure cravings and try out a new thrill. Whatever you do, make sure to capture all of those fun and tranquil moments on camera. Tip: for a huge time-saver during your action-packed vacation, try Batiste™ Dry Shampoo in Tropical to tackle oily hair. The light and clean scent will refresh your locks, giving you more time to check out the sights.
2. The possibilities are endless. You can travel to Europe or down south or perhaps embark on a road trip across Canada. Vacationing is a great way to get some natural vitamin D and for your children to experience a new culture, language and food first hand. It’s also a great way to unplug and enjoy undisturbed family time. Keeping the kids entertained is the easy part. Getting them to go back home to the daily routine will be the hard part. Before travelling I always read fellow travelers reviews online. This will give you some great insight and ideas for what to see and do on your vacation and which type of trip or resort is ideal based on your needs and available resources.
3. You’re not home! You don’t need to worry about cleaning or cooking. You don’t need to worry about your never-ending to-do list or laundry…at least not until you get home. Repeat after me…R-E-L-A-X!
Staycation
1. You’re going to save a lot of money staying at home. While you will have to spend more time planning your day, a quick trip to the dollar store can provide some new and exciting things to do and keep your kids busy for hours. While it’s not summer outside just yet, the snow is melting and the warmer weather provides a perfect opportunity to get back outdoors with your kids and head to the park. Tip: Check out a museum, unwind at a local park, or try a new restaurant. You might be surprised what you’ll uncover in your own backyard.
2. You don’t need to deal with the stress of packing and getting to places on time. You can follow your own schedule at your own pace (or your children’s).Just because you’re at home, it doesn’t mean you can’t relax! Tip: Don’t start running errands—do all the things you can’t do while working, like catching up on some much needed sleep!
3. Take the time to carve out some time for yourself. Do what you love doing most or perhaps try out something you’ve been putting off. Personally, I’m going o try to get to the spa for some much needed pampering and look up painting and photography classes during my down-time.
