As a business student, I spent a lot of time learning about traditional concepts like supply and demand and profitability. I also learned about how some companies incorporate Corporate Social Responsibility into their business model in order to give back. Besides good business practice, these companies aim to have a positive impact on the environment and a variety of stakeholders including consumers, employees, investors, communities, and others. One company that drives this goal home is Ten Thousand Villages.
If you’ve never heard of Ten Thousand Villages, you must check them out! They have 37 stores across Canada and operate under a fair trade agreement with their partners, mostly talented artisans living in third world countries that are disadvantaged producers. These individuals, who create beautiful things, want to be treated with dignity and respect for their work and expect to be compensated accordingly for their time, efforts and materials. That’s what fair trade is all about and that’s why I love shopping and supporting organizations like Ten Thousand Villages. Not to mention, the things they sell are just stunning. I can’t help myself and stop and window shop every time I walk by the store (which is every day since there’s one down the street from me).
I received the opportunity to try out some of their products including an infinity scarf and beautiful earrings. The scarf is soft and has beautiful prints. I love the bright colours which are a perfect contrast to the somber plain colours that are in fashion this season. It’s great to wear everyday under your coat to keep you warm but something that you can keep wearing once you’re indoors. The earrings are a perfect statement piece. They can be worn on a daily basis or are a great way to spruce up an outfit.
Besides jewelry and fashion accessories, Ten Thousand Villages carries the following items for sale: home decor, games and toys, books and food items among their total collection. Here are some of my other favourite items that can be purchased at Ten Thousand Villages.
These make great gifts for anyone on your list. Check them out if you have any last minute shopping that you need to do. You can also buy online here. Feel good about shopping and giving this holiday season when you shop at Ten Thousand Villages.
Happy Holidays & Happy Shopping!

We are lucky enough to have a Ten Thousand Villages in our town. LOVE their coffee. (and they always have a sample to try. Plus a rewards card for multiple purchases). Beautiful and unique gifts too. Tasty chocolate . I can always find something there. Prices are very reasonable too.
