My oldest son started JK this year so I have to send him to school with snacks. His school has a litterless lunch policy and sends back any packaging waste that was sent along in his lunch box. I have to admit that this is all new territory for me. While I do my best to pack a litterless lunch box, it’s not always easy. First of all, it’s hard to find the right sized containers, find ones with lids, or find containers that my son can open easily on his own (they are big on teaching independence in his class so he doesn’t receive any assistance with his lunch). To say the least, I usually send him to school with a lot of “bags” and packaging. His lunch box comes back sticky and riddled with left over waste.
As a result I was really looking forward to trying out Rubbermaid’s LunchBlox, a modern twist on Bento boxes. The LunchBlox are not only space saving, but they also come with an ice pack that snaps on the containers, ensuring it stays in place, which is great because my son’s favourite snacks are cheese and yogurt. While sturdy and tight fitting, my son is able to open the lids on his own which mean less frustration, a full belly and a happy boy. As a mom, that’s a big win for me!
With winter coming, we would also like to start enticing my oldest son to stay at school a few days a week for lunch. I think having a “fun” lunch would help and part of that includes the containers that will hold his food. I know my son will like these containers because of their bright green, blue and orange colours. As a mom, it’s clear to see that the overall design of the LunchBlox was carefully thought out as the depth and shape are great for storing sandwiches, eggs, Edamame, cut up fruit and goldfish crackers. While as parent I try to encourages my son to eat mostly healthy food, I may sneak in a chocolate chip cookie or fruit-roll-up with his first lunch meal. Hey, I never said I’m above bribing 😉
The LunchBlox are also ideal when I’m planning an outing with my boys. Whether it’s a trip to the zoo, an amusement park, an indoor playground or a road trip to the cottage, I always need to pack snacks with me. I mean, I can’t go on a five minute errand run without stuffing my purse with snacks for the boys. The Rubbermaid LunchBlox makes it easy for me to pack for these events the night before because mornings are always too hectic. I also know that the food will keep fresh in these great containers. The best part? You can freeze, microwave and put the LunchBlox in the dishwasher.
Do you have any tips or tricks to share on how you make your kid’s lunch more exciting?

I have the LunchBolx for my son, I love how thin the ice pack is. It fits perfectly in his lunch bag to keep things cool, but does not take up too much room

There is a tiny part of me that hates litter less lunch and we have been doing them now for years! These sound great. I think I would use them. I’d be concerned that it wouldn;t go back together as a unit if you lost a piece though – kids lose things ALL the time here.

I totally need this as my son lost his $45 stainless steel bento box!

These would make it easier. My son doesn’t like for foods to touch.

You are too cute!! I love the tracks made out of bread! Tupperware is great, especially when the school makes the kids bring home all garbage! EWW!

I like this reusable idea, it keeps the food fresh and saves money (no more tossing bags).
