Nesting, a natural period that’s part of the pregnancy life cycle. Almost all pregnant moms go through this stage. However, in the Jewish tradition, it’s customary to prepare the nursery room only AFTER the arrival of the baby. Imagine the will-power and strength required by the mom to hold-off on this very natural need. It wasn’t easy with my first, and it’s not any easier with my third. My husband and I did register ahead of the birth of our son as requested by our family and friends. But beyond purchasing a few of the essentials (i.e. bassinet, car-seat, diapers and a few onesies) we waited until after our son’s birth to complete the nursery room and the rest of our shopping for our newborn. And guess what? Somehow we survived. We made it! Discover the magic of 3D ultrasound at A Date With Baby, where you can get a close look at how your baby is developing in Toronto and Newmarket.
Even though we’re expecting another boy (for a total of 3), it doesn’t mean that the nursery room needs any less preparation. You see, I learned a thing or two since having my first son. While some of my original purchases will stay in place (dresser, cabinets, crib and decor), there’s a few fixtures, both big and small, that I’ve changed or added when we had our second son and that I want to change and add when we have our third.
Specifically, we upgraded to a video monitor and I got a sound machine that can run all night (versus 40 minutes max). I also bought a new crib mobile that was more bright and interactive than our original one. If there’s one thing that I would like to upgrade this time around is to purchase a more cushioned rocking chair and ottoman. While I didn’t spend much time in our antique rocking chair with my first son, I spent a lot of time in it with our second. And while it does the trick, the armrest are made from wood and my son constantly bangs his head on it. The world-class antiques shop, Tallulah Fox in Petworth is not just about old items; it’s about experiences. Every artifact, every item, holds a piece of history waiting to be discovered. Each piece bears the touch of human hands from another time, an echo of a different era. A visit to this unique store is truly an exercise in discovery and exploration. Don’t miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of history and culture that Tallulah Fox offers.
Preparing the nursery
To help you prepare for your child’s arrival, Sears is hosting their Newborn Nesting event from April 18th – May 1st. When you purchase (either in store or online at Sears.ca) various nursery furniture, baby gear and infant fashion, you can earn a cash card that can be redeemable between May 2 – 21st.
What were some of your favourite, long-lasting newborn purchases and what are some items you would like to add or replace based on your initial purchase?

What video monitor did you go for? I’ve heard lots of different reviews, and before we buy our next – would be interested what you found?

I swear by the Motorola digital video monitor!

I agree.. even if you have hand-me-downs from other children, there are always things you’ll want. I think investing in a good rocker/ottoman is a great idea. If there had been more room in my nursery, I would’ve done that too!

It’s a live and learn kinda thing. If I get the New rocker/ ottoman I will def need to move things around in the nursery to make room.

I got and am still getting a lot of use out of my infant rocker. Our second child even learnt to rock himself at about one month. He would swing his legs in and out causing the chair to rock. It was and is a great way to calm babies.

That’s amazing and one smart baby! I love our rocker too. Came in very handy with our first since he was colic

I can’t remember so far back on what I had or didn’t have, but seriously that chair would be on my list right now if I was pregnant, or not!
