The perfect newborn car seat. Graco SnugRide Click Connect 35 review & giveaway (Canada)

Traditionally, in my faith, we don’t buy any baby necessities before a baby is born. While I almost strictly adhered to this tradition, we did purchase a car seat before our first son was born. Not only is it one of the most important baby items you will buy, but it’s also a requirement at the hospital before they will discharge you. It’s no wonder most parents spend a lot of time researching the perfect car seat for their precious newborn. Some important features that I check for include safety ratings, weight restrictions, fit with stroller, design of seat to support baby’s body and ease of installation. Some nice to have features include an easy to clean fabric, easily adjustable and multiple strap setting, and weight of car seat.

Coming home from the hospital

Graco SnugRide

I found all of these requirements and more in my Graco SnugRide Click Connect car seat. It’s a great “bucket” seat and comes standard with some nice features such as an insert for your newborn that helps supports their head better and soft pads that sit on the buckle so the straps don’t dig into your newborn.

Being watched over by his cousin

Being watched over by his cousin

My brother and Sister-in-law are big fans of the Graco line of products and have used a Graco car seat for all four of their kids. We’re also enjoying our Graco SnugRide Click Connect with our newborn. It’s easy to carry, easily pops into the car bucket and has several handle settings that allow me to place my son down while still in his seat without worrying that he’ll tip over.

Shhhh! The baby is sleeping!

Shhhh! The baby is sleeping!

While you can purchase a convertible car seat that will fit a newborn up to a toddler, there are a lot of benefits to purchasing an infant car seat. Specifically, you can easily pop the car seat in and out of the base instead of psychically taking the baby out of the car seat.  This is ideal when the baby is asleep or when running errands. The baby can remain asleep while you drive, go shopping and pick up your kids from school.  I know this for a fact because I’ve done it!

One thing that could be better is the seat’s canopy.  Whenever I move either the canopy or the seat handle, they seems to get in the way of each other. Also, the shade doesn’t cover my son’s face as much as I would like it too.  At times, I also have a hard time pulling the seat out of the base. It’s just a matter of holding down the red button and pulling straight up.  My husband always manages but sometimes for me, it takes a couple of tries before I can do it. Of course, these are just minor nuisances.

The Graco seat has the added advantage of holding a child from 4lbs up to 35lbs and appears to be more cushioned than comparable infant car seats. Also, the seat cushion is machine washable. The best feature by far is the Click Connect mechanism. You know the seat is safely secured into its base when you hear the 2 clicks. That sound provides a peace of mind that can’t be bought. I’m a big fan of this car seat and would definitely recommend it to my friends or anyone else in the market for an infant car seat.
