I received the opportunity to review Caffeine Rebel, a cool new concept in monthly subscription featuring unique, specialty coffee delivered straight to your door. However, I was pregnant at the time so I couldn’t indulge my love for coffee. Luckily, my awesome friend and talented writer Ashley Bennion was happy to review it on my behalf. Here’s what she thought of the coffee and service.

Full disclosure: I love coffee – from hot to iced, and every variation in between – I love everything about it. I’ve often thought whoever discovered coffee (the Mayans I think?) should be awarded the Noble Peace Prize because it takes me from Zombie Mom to somewhat-alert Mom in one cup. Two if it’s mid-week. So when Maya asked me to try Caffeine Rebel, a coffee subscription service, I was more than intrigued.
Before I even brewed my first cup I was sort of hooked, because a monthly subscription service would avoid the dreaded ohmygodwe’verunoutofcoffee conundrum that strikes fear into the hearts of all Moms everywhere, especially the SAHM kind like me where on those mornings you don’t have coffee you would literally pay anything to have someone deliver a steaming hot cup to you. Anything. Let’s face it, even though coffee is a dire necessity, sometimes running out to the store first thing in the morning is virtually impossible because you’re already being pulled in a thousand directions and that 4 year old isn’t going to walk herself to school.
So when the package arrived I was excited. First up: Drumroaster Coffee. I love that I’m getting an education with each bag: Region, processing, variety and date it was harvested all featured prominently. Just like wine! (My second favourite beverage.)
I hit a snag because I don’t have a grinder, but came across one easily and have to admit, brewing wholesale coffee beans seems like a luxury and makes the kitchen smell great.
I’m a couple weeks into it and though I found one of the blends too fruity, the espresso is right up my alley, deep and bold and complex. The flavours are ones I may not try on my own, but I like that a service like this would introduce me to coffee I might never try. And as they say, variety is the spice of life!
Thank you Maya for asking me to be your guinea pig, I’m thrilled to think I may never run out of coffee again.

I’m not normally into subscription boxes but for coffee…
I actually have called someone, begging for a coffee to be delivered, on more than one morning…
