Oh March Break… You’re only a week long but I have so many feelings about you. In the past, we would typically go away over March Break (usually on a ski trip). This year, we decided to stay home and have a little staycation.
On one hand, I was happy because it would mean we could take it easy. On the other, what I had imagined was very different from our reality. I thought we’d have plenty of sleep-ins, brunch, and lots of happily lounging around the house. In reality, March Break was pretty nuts! The house could have easily been mistaken as the after effect of a tornado, John was away for work a few nights, the screen was on longer than I like to admit, and the boys still had a relatively busy schedule.
Each day by late afternoon, I couldn’t even think about what I would make for dinner, let alone have the energy to cook something. I was so desperate that I even invited us over to my brother’s house for dinner one night (and he has 5 kids, just so you understand how bad it got).
I finally decided to let go of the stress and guilt, and ordered dinner in from SkiptheDishes, which has a HUGE selection of restaurants (over 15,000!). Because we couldn’t get away this break, I decided to maintain a vacation tradition and let each of the kids select their favourite foods for dinner. Kyle got burgers from A&W, Ryan got a sub from Mr Sub, Nathan got a hot dog from Harvey’s and I got a bowl from Freshii.
Placing the order was easy, quick and freed up my time to do something else (like relax with a glass of wine). We were able to order multiple meals from different restaurants without any confusion. We could track our order status and it arrived looking absolutely delicious! The app is so easy to use so we usually order in on a weekly basis. I just can’t fathom (mentally or physically) cooking every meal. Cooking sometimes feels daunting to me, so whenever I can, I like to outsource my house chores, dinner included! I’m so grateful for SkiptheDishes, as it helped make our March break #SkipStaycation that much more exciting.
If you would like to check out SkiptheDishes for yourself, you can either download the app here, or visit their website here to order today. And be sure to stop by my Instagram post here to enter for a chance to win a $200 voucher to SkiptheDishes – contest ends on March 24, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. EST.
Do you order in often? If so, what are your go-to meals?
We don’t order in often but when we do, Greek on Wheels and shawarma family platters are a fave. 😋
Ohhh. Never tried Greek on wheels. Although, we live in Greektown so lots of Greek options near us 😊
Love Skip the dishes. Its great when you do not want to cook!
Life saver!!
I’ve never ordered but we’re in a rural area that they won’t deliver to. I’m sure they’d get lots of business out here there.
oooh I had no idea there were so many options! I’m downloading the app now! Thanks for the review
Love that there are so many different options!
I have not tried the skip the dishes app yet, but I am sure I will love when I do
I would love to try Skip The Dishes but they would not deliver to where I live out in the country.
We have quite the busy household as well. Every now and then, takeout can be a real lifesaver. I’ve heard of SkipTheDishes and really want to try it. It would certainly be a nice change.
With 3 young boys we don’t order out much , but when we’re so it’s usually pizza or thai food
totally love skip the dishes! we order from them every friday. it is a nice treat at the end of the week and a good break from cooking
I had skip the dishes at my brother’s place but have not ordered it myself as we are more rural. It is delicious and convenient for those that can get it.
We love Skip! Order it almost weekly LOL
So many different options, wish I lived closer!
i have enjoyed Skip the dishes for order my favourite Indian Bombay to Go in Mississauga the best butter chicken
Oh I need to try this!
Love the tips!
Skip the dishes sounds so handy. I don’t think we have the option in our small town! Our go to is usually pizza…we don’t have many options.
I just ordered from SkiptheDishes a couple of weeks ago. Was so easy to use :).
YAY – skipthedishes has saved my butt on many evenings!!!
I have yet to try skipthedishes but I have seen your post on Instagram and entered. We are going away this weekend and eating out so perhaps we will try ordering in with skipthedishes.
I will definitely resort to convenience with the work load plus 3 kids lol
We live on staycations, real vacations are just too expensive
I haven’t tried SkipTheDishes yet but it sounds wonderful. I admit I do not like cooking but I try not to order in too much due to the cost, I love the idea of being able to order from different places though because we rarely agree on where to order from.
Awesome for the kids
I would love to try this APP……perfect for those days you don’t want to cook!
Great idea to keep everyone happy and relaxed! Will likely be doing this next time we have a staycation!
Skip the dishes is by far the best option here in Toronto !
I have not tried SkipTheDishes yet … I will have to look into it.
We love Skip the Dishes and usually order our favourite Chinese.
great review will have to check it out!
Skip the dishes is so convenient. Great option for when you just don’t have the time as a busy family..
We’re a family of 7 so we don’t order very often but Skip the Diahes sounds great. We usually stick to pizza but it gets pretty boring pretty quick!
Tried Skip the Dishes on business trip! It was great!
I’ve heard of it but haven’t tried skip the dishes yet…so I’ll have to look into this!
We usually order wings and pizza in but we eat out fairly often for foods we cant make at home like Vietnamese, Hot Pot and Sushi
Skip the dishes has become my favourite thing to cook. 😜 I even order lunch for my self during the week while my toddler naps. I order tacos and chicken wings like every week!! Lol I even order some ice cream for dessert when the kids are in bed.
I didn’t realize you could get good from multiple locations so easily. Great for the varied palates in my home!
This would make it so easy, also it skips the whole, “Where do you want to eat…I don’t want to eat that.” conversation.
I love staycations…. especially when we go to a spa like place in our city. OK, my kind of staycation.
ohh awesome we love staycations but this never thought of it, could of save me some time lol next time I will have to skip the dishes
We moved to a rural area and I sure miss take out foods.
I live in a rural area so haven’t tried it.
I love skip the dishes, its a great service
Yes to no cooking
Haven’t tried it yet.
very interesting there are a couple of things I would like to try
Sounds good to me!
Sounds like a lifesaver on those crazy nights when dinner is the last thing on your mind.
I’m like several others on here, I live in a rural area. Can’t even get pizza delivery.
Hope I won’t thanks
I live in a rural area so Skip the Dishes is not an option for me. It would nice on those rare occasions that I don’t cook.
Love Stay Vacation and we do it often with our 2 grandkids. Ordering in food as well. Greek food is amazing, love it and in particular the Greek Salad.
cool
Love this blog as a NaNa!!
Skip the dishes. So many reasonable choices, no guilt!!
Didn’t know there was such an App. Thanks for sharing!
I am anxiously awaiting skip the dishes to come to my area. I love this whole concept. I have 2 children who live in Toronto, they’ve used skip the dishes and love it.
We stopped ordering “chain food” and rarely order anymore. Usually its our favourite local pizza shop.
Always nice to outsource dinner because in the end its the cleanup I hate of having to wash and scrub pots and pans.
What a great concept! Skip the Dishes on those already crazy days and have more time to spend doing
other family things!
Our go to’s for a relief from cooking usually are for takeout Pizza or Chinese food.
Never ordered any food l For me its just another reason to go out and not sit home.
We used to order in a ton, very rarely do now. Got tired of the same stuff over and over again.
I’d pay an arm and a leg to have this in our area!
Unfortunately, no. We live in the country so not an option : (
We live up north so it isn’t an option!
Great idea
We never order in, it’s too expensive. Instead, we all gather in the Kitchen on Saturday morning and decide what we want to eat the following week, make a list of everything each person is to do, and prepare most . Sunday is cooking and organizing where everything is to go -for quick last minute grabbing- and most of that week’s meals are all done! Yea!
Love this!!! What a great idea
We all love pizza and rather have pizza delivery than going out for pizza
I haven’t tried it. Thanks for the review 🙂
We haven’t tried SkiptheDishes just yet! You’ve inspired me to check this out for the upcoming week!
I love the idea of my daughter playing outside with her friends! So much nicer than seeing kids these days on devices! I am also quite excited about the idea of playing with her on it and releasing my inner child!!
Oops, I read both blog posts! To this post, my reply is that I have been wanting to try Skip The Dishes for a very long time and I just got the nudge I needed to pick up the phone! Thank you!
My daughter loves her skip the dishes app and orders from that weekly. We usually go with pizza or pasta which the kids request. I am mad for our local restaurants fried rice which goes wonderful with red red wine..
Staycations can be so rewarding
The kids insist on McD’s when we get Skip the Dishes but we prefer our favourite Japanese restaurant.
love the blog, thanks for everything
