Next week, my summer vacation is going to look a lot different. For the past two weeks, both Kyle and Ryan were in sports camp. Having just Nathan at home felt like I was on “vacation.” Next week will be the first week I have all of the boys home with me and I would be lying if I told you that I’m not panicking a little. But enough about me… I’m here to tell you about the amazing camp – True North Sports Camp – that my boys just completed. In fact, it was the only camp that Kyle willingly agreed to go to this summer having experienced it last year as well.
True North Sports Camps offer Sports Camps and programs for kids ages 4 – 14 in Toronto, Etobicoke and Hamilton. My boys were really keen on joining the junior baseball camp as their love for baseball grows stronger (compared to hockey) over the summer months. Both Kyle and Ryan love playing baseball at the school park and on weekends at the cottage every opportunity they get. We knew this camp would be a great fit for both of them.
The day consists of them practicing their throwing, catching, hitting and playing a baseball game. But besides baseball, there’s always a ton of other playing that takes place. They play games like tag and octopus and “what time is it Mr. Wolf.” They make up team names and really get a chance to bond with other campers on their team. The ratio of staff to kids is approximately 1 to 5, which is amazing!
In fact, I can’t speak enough about the staff. They are super friendly and warm and always greet the boys by their names whenever they arrive and leave. And it’s not just their immediate counselors, others know them by name too! They are caring and warm and always make a point of including everyone, regardless of skill level or passion.
I have to admit that I was a little hesitant about sending Ryan to this camp for two weeks. Ryan is just 4 years old, and not as skilled in sports as Kyle. However, he always felt welcomed at the camp and made friends easily. Whenever I asked management for some additional support with Ryan (giving him new band aids for his blisters and opening up his lunch for him), they just said “YES!” immediately. In my experience, the staff and management has been extremely helpful and accommodating.
The boys experience, as well as mine as a loving and concerned parent, has been so great at True North Sports Camp. I would highly recommend it to anyone that lives in the GTA who is still looking to fill up some weeks of their summer break. In fact, if you sign up for Junior Baseball Camp, you can use my code “TrueNorth15” to receive 15% off one week at Junior Baseball Camp.
Knowing that my boys were being taken care of and having fun away from home (not to mention fed through the lunch program which is also a total #momwin), made it easier for me to enjoy my time at home with just Nate. I may just have to send them back there for another week in August… After all it would be a win-win for all of us!
Disclosure: This post is sponsored by True North Sports Camps. In exchange for this post, I have received perks in the form of services (aka my kids went to his camp for free). All opinions on this blog are my own.
