It’s been 15 years since I graduated high-school (yes, I just gave away my age) and I often wonder about my high-school friends. While I’m still “friends” with most of them on Facebook, I only hang-out with two of them regularly. Technically, just one friend since the other I met when I was in high-school, but we didn’t go to the same school. Basically, my stats for keeping in touch with my high-school friends SUCK.
The funny part is, I really like all of my friends from high-school. All of them, even the ones I wasn’t really close with. I guess naturally, and with time, we drifted or lost touch. Something that unfortunately, is pretty common.
What’s NOT common is the amazing relationships that my husband, John, has with his high-school friends. Just two weekends ago we went to a BBQ hosted by one of John’s old high-school friends. About 10 of John’s friends from high-school, both female and male, were there (and if applicable) with their significant other and kid/s. Not to mention, at least four other friends from the group had a conflict and were missing.
I truly believe that the relationship that this group has, 15 years later, is very amazing. Something that’s truly special and must be cherished. I’m in awe of their friendship, lasting the test of time.
And I guess, vicariously through my husband, I get to enjoy that special bond that they have. Not to mention, the group now includes my closest friends as well! I hope that 15 years from now, I can write a similar post and will include an updated picture.
What about you? Do you still keep in touch with your high-school friends?
