My three year old son Kyle is a very high-energy kid who is always on the move. As a stay at home mom it’s important for me to keep him stimulated and occupied for long periods of time. Our basement is a miniature replica of Toys R Us. Good or bad, it is overflowing with varying toys to help me out. I have to say that his favourite toys are the ones where he gets to play pretend. Some of these toys we’ve had since he was one and he still plays with them.
Playing Pretend
Specifically, we have a workstation where he can pretend to build or fix things. Similarly, we also have a kitchen station where my son pretends to cook us meals. Sometimes the stove is used as the fridge and the fridge is used as the microwave, but the food always tastes delicious! Another one of his favourite make-belief games is shopping! This is a big win for me as I love to shop. He walks his shopping cart around the basement, filling it up with various toys and pretend items.
Imaginative Play with Fisher Price Little People
When Kyle is playing independently, he likes playing with his Fisher Price sets. At home, we have the Little People Animal Sounds Farm. After Kyle sets up the animals inside the barn, they all “slide” down the barn roof. He loves using the Little People in the barn too. Each one is someone in our family. There’s a mom, dad, Kyle and Ryan (even though most often red haired Sofie is Ryan). We all take turns taking care of the animals, going for rides, walks and sleeping.
While we’re at the cottage, Kyle plays with the Little People Zoo Talkers Animal Sounds Zoo. He likes to “re-create” our hometown zoo. He pretends that the Little People are visiting the zoo and going from area to area, making the animal sounds as they visit them. There’s really nothing sweeter than watching my boy play pretend.
Personally, I love Fisher Price’s new Little People. They’re all unique in their looks and personality. I think children will find them very relatable and it will make their playtime that much more enjoyable. Eddie, the blond hair, high-energy, go-go-go kind of boy who always has a ball pretty much sums up my son Kyle. It’s great to have a little doll that’s exactly like him and it greatly assists with self-directed play.
