To say I’ve been fortunate would be an understatement. I feel like the luckiest girl on earth! I have food, a roof over my head and I’m surrounded by a loving family, husband and kids. While our house is full of love, it’s also full of STUFF. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love stuff. I would probably go out and buy new clothes every day or buy my kids a new toy or game if I could afford to. But truthfully, we have enough. Our house is full to the brim with clothes, gadgets, baby gear, toys, games, books, and more. With the third kid, we need to make more room, not fill it up. I’m not complaining, but the reality is that we don’t use half of the stuff that we own. Not only are we lucky but we’re very fortunate.
I’m forever grateful to be where I am. I have my parents to thank for sacrificing their comfortable life as they knew it and moving away from their family and friends to give my brother’s and I a chance at a better (and easier) life. I am grateful for my husband who works hard to help support myself and the boys, to give us the best life possible where we get to enjoy city living, programs and a variety of other fun events without question. I’m also grateful for how my blog turned out. What started as a hobby and passion for story telling has turned into a part-time job.
So this season, instead of filling up our home with more toys, clothes and baby gear that I’ve received through my blog, I’m going to be donating it to a local charity called The New Mom Project. The New Mom Project was started to provide marginalized families with some basic baby necessities to get them off to a great and loving start. They collect donations of gently used or new items and distribute them to families in need. The organization is all about moms and helping moms. That’s definitely something we can all get behind.
I’ve teamed up with Disney Baby Canada, and together we’re donating a box full of goodies that can be used by new parents. I’m so excited to be helping out, even in just a small way. Going forward I’m going to volunteer there as well. The great part is that I can bring my kids along. There is no better way to show them what giving back is all about than by including them too.
GIVEAWAY
Since ’tis the season, I’ve decided to also giveaway something to my readers. Together with Disney Baby Canada, I will be giving away a new Winnie the Pooh Crib Set, valued at $100. Enter the giveaway via Rafflecopter (please give it a few seconds to load). Contest is open to Canadians. Contest ends Wednesday December 31, 2014.
