I did it… I actually did it. I ran my first competitive event since I had my first son three years ago. I participated in the Warrior Dash obstacle race that took place at Horseshow Valley, Ontario. Here’s a few snippets about my experience.
- I trained for 7 weeks before the course. My training included running and strength exercises at Fitwall
- Participants were of all shapes, sizes, ages and fitness levels. However, it’s not for the weak at heart.
- “Running” ski hills SUCKS!! Actually, we walked most of the hills. In fact, everyone walked the hills
- The obstacles were harder than I anticipated, but were the best part about the race
- I didn’t get as muddy as I thought I would
- You get rewarded with a nice cold beer at the end of the race! (oh yeah, and a medal that also doubles as a bottle opener)
- The rest is best explained by pictures….
I had so much fun doing the race that my husband and I are already committed to doing it again next year. We would love to put in a team, so if you’re interested, let us know.
Other pointers / tips
– if you show up early or come late, don’t fret. They don’t check to make sure that you start at your allocated time.
– bring a change of clothes
