How I’m taking back control of my health and wellness

If you’ve ever looked at my blog headings, you’ll notice that I have four main categories that I typically write about. They are: Parenting, Travel & Adventure, Wellness & Health, and Reviews & Giveaways. Except, one of these headings has been lacking content for the last few years. The last time I really put time and effort into my health and wellness was when Nate turned one. For six months I worked-out, I ran and I ate really well. That was two and a half years ago.

I took care of myself, and it paid off physically, mentally and emotionally. But for the past two years, I haven’t done any of those things. Taking care of myself is always on my “to-do list” or part of a New Year’s resolution, but it never actually materializes. I suppose I prioritized family and work obligations first. I never felt like I was in a routine or fully committed to start anything… until recently that is.

A month ago, I finally felt like I could make health and wellness a priority for myself. My blogging was in a good place and my boys were into their own routine of school and extra-curricular activities. I also let go of some mom guilt that allowed me to focus on myself, instead of just focusing on my kids. I justified it by telling myself that it’s helping my kids become more independent (right?!?!).

I started the same program that I did when Nate was one. But I committed myself to sticking it out for the long term. So far, I’ve been working out every day for the past two month and I even started running again. I also started focusing on what I’m eating. I cut out sugar and dairy and significantly reduced the amount of carbs (yes, including my wine consumption too). I’m fueling up on protein, vegetables and fruits and I never feel hungry! Eating well and exercising has helped my skin look better, but because I’m not getting any younger (crazy, right?), I also wanted to improve my skin routine. So a few weeks ago, I started using L’Oréal Revitalift Cicacream. It works on all skin types, including sensitive skin, by repairing the skin’s moisture barrier to prevent future premature aging (aka – reduce the effects of wrinkles). But don’t just take my word for it! This cream is the first anti-aging cream recognized by the Canadian Dermatology Association*.

I’m already amazed by the results I see and feel in my body and skin. I’m stronger and healthier and my energy is back! I just can’t believe it’s taken me this long to finally invest in myself.

What about you? I would love to know what you do to take care of your body and skin?
