Kyle’s teacher last year threw a few small ‘parties’ in her class around some of the holidays. She assigned four or five families to be in charge of snacks for the celebration. However, the big stipulation was that they had to be healthy. This left me in a bit of a conundrum because when it comes to snacks, most aren’t always healthy. I realized that this meant that I would need to make something myself (vs. store bought), which is always a pain, as I’m all about quick and easy, but I digress…
Anyway, I was put in charge of Halloween. Since I knew I would have to make the snacks myself, I figured that I might as well make them Halloween themed. However, I still wanted them to be quick and easy because that’s how I roll. I came up with four different snack dishes that were a big hit with the kids. They are all different enough so even if your child may not like certain foods, they can definitely find something they WILL like between the four options. So whether you need to make a snack for your child’s class or if you’re hosting a Halloween party at home, you can make these snacks that are perfect for big or little goblins and monsters alike.
Witch broom sticks
You will need some pretzels and cheese strings for this. Cut the cheese string into thirds. Peel the cheese string into little sections, from one end, about half way. Stick the pretzel into the cheese string slice.
Pumpkin face fruit & veggie plate
You will need lots of carrots and some fruit for accents. Here I used blackberries and strawberries. You can just look at my image and recreate it.
Baby pumpkins
You will need clementines and celery sticks. Peel the clementines. Thinly slice the celery and slice into 3′ pieces. Stick a celery slice in the top of each clementine.
Cheese & Crackers
You will need some Halloween shaped cookie cutters, variety of (kid friendly) cheese and crackers. Use the cookie cutters to shape the cheese. Lay it all out on a board and serve!
What other kid-friendly, healthy Halloween-themed snacks would you suggest?
