My friend and I have been attending Canada’s Wonderland’s annual Halloween Haunt since 2018. It’s become somewhat of a tradition for us. While neither one of us would call ourselves a ‘Halloween Haunt’ kind of individual, we always have a blast.
If you’re planning on visiting Canada’s Wonderland’s Halloween Haunt this year, here is what you can expect.
Due to covid, everything is now outdoors, including some scare zones/mazes which used to be indoors. There are ten scare zones in total. My personal favourites were the Streets of the Dead and the Forest of Fear. I honestly have to give the employees so much credit for taking their roles so seriously and always staying in character. They really do an amazing job acting like zombies, creatures, monsters, and more. Although I have to say that the only downside to moving the scare zones outdoors is that it’s definitely not as spooky or scary as when they were indoors (which might be a good thing actually… I always used to freak out in the indoor mazes).
My other favourite part was the Vampire Disco just outside the Forest of Fear. The DJ was amazing, and the crowd felt electric as everyone was dancing and jumping outside. It almost felt as things were back to normal. The area was spacious enough that it didn’t feel crowded and families with young ones were able to stick to the back while others were right up near the DJ booth.
Another show that seemed to be a huge hit and had a large crowd forming around it was the Inferno Live Show. The show included various balancing and fire tricks. It definitely was cool to watch under a dark night sky.
Here’s a video of some of the scare zones and attractions I saw during our visit:
Here are some things to keep in mind when you go:
- Park will be busy. Expect long line ups at the rides, especially the more popular ones. We waited approximately 1 hour to go on Behemoth. A good idea would be to prioritize 1-3 rides that you want to go on.
- Walk slowly through the scare zones to get the full affect of getting spooked.
- Most people who attend Halloween Haunt are teenagers and young adults. However,we did see a few families there too even though the Haunt is not recommended for kids under 13. I think it ultimately depends on your child’s personality and how scared they might be. For example, I think my 8 (almost 9) year old son would really enjoy it but probably not my other two boys (ages 11 and 7).
- To grab food from the Backlot Cafe and Marketplace (which offers indoor dining), you will need to show proof of vaccination for those that are ages 12+.
Key details from Canada’s Wonderland website:
- Halloween Haunt runs select nights Sept. 24 to Oct. 31 from 7 p.m. to midnight.
- Admission is included with a GOLD pass and reservations are required for all guests.
- Not recommended for children under 13.
