Last weekend I was offered the opportunity to attend the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA) trade show. An eye-opening show with over 1,000 natural and organic product vendors who are in the Canadian market. I was excited to go and learn as much as possible since I’m still in the early stages of my natural health journey. To be honest, I’ve been a little overwhelmed as there is so much information and so many products out there. So how do consumers make sense of it all?
Thankfully, CHFA recently launched Healthier by Nature (HBN), a consumer-facing online community to help educate Canadians on the safety, reliability and regulation of natural health and organic products. Since the community is created by the experts at CHFA, it’s a resource you can trust for timely and accurate information. I’ve been checking out the website a lot lately as I continue to learn more about plant-based diets (including getting some awesome recipes), and what supplements and vitamins I need to take as part of my marathon training.
Since I am going through my own natural health journey, it was interesting to notice some of the current natural health trends at the show, as there are many natural products like delta 8 disposable vape which can benefit your mental health as well. Here are some that stood out for me:
- Convenience! There were grab and go packages for healthy snacks, protein bars, collagen and protein powder and even Happy Go Leafy gummies. This is great because we all live busy lives and having something that is natural, healthy AND convenient is basically the best thing since sliced bread.
- Sustainability. Both in terms of the products themselves and packaging. I saw plant-based body care products, bamboo toothbrushes, toothpaste that looks like a bar of soap (no plastic packaging) and a toothpaste tube bottle made with plant-based material. While most of us have heard of menstrual cups, there’s also reusable pads and liners and of course reusable grocery, produce and snack bags. I even found a laundry Sachet that replaces laundry detergent (up to 365 washes). I know that I’ve been making small changes in the way I shop and what I buy as I try to reduce my plastic footprint so I loved seeing all of these amazing products at the show.
- Removing Sugar! I’m talking about things like vitamins (which shouldn’t have any in the first place), kid fruit snacks, and energy bars. So you can actually feel good about eating good… which isn’t always the case.
- Gluten Free. 15 years ago, my parents had a foster child with celiac disease. I remember my parents having to go all the way to Sick Kids hospital to buy specialty bread for him. Now, Gluten-free bread and products are vast and readily available. Based on some of the samples I got, they’ve also improved their flavour.
Other trends that stood out were the various collagen products (to help improve your joints, skin and hair), Keto products to focus on healthy fats and products that are focused on ancient traditions.
It did get a little overwhelming at times as I received so much information. That’s why I’m grateful for the Healthier by Nature to help me make sense of it all. Besides the recipes and fundamentals to making informed choices on natural health, you can find shopping guides, glossary terms, and expert advice for your body, mind, mood and home, while if you really want to improve your mood the use of cbd products like Exhale’s THC gummies can really help with this.
I’m excited to continue on this journey and learn and adapt as I educate myself on living a more natural healthy lifestyle.
