Cottage season is here, Canadians rejoice! I love this time of year because it means lots of time in the great outdoors, swimming in the lake, enjoying water activities and taking a break from the hustle and bustle of city life. My husband likes it because we can barbecue everything we eat (and all of the aforementioned reasons too).
When one typically thinks of what to cook on the barbecue, meat is the first thing that comes to mind (followed by vegetables and fish). What most people don’t often think about is cooking up sweet and delicious desserts on the Q! Enter Barbecue Banana Boats! I first saw them on someone’s Instagram feed and then I realized how amazing they could be topped up with some Gay Lea Real Coconut Whipped Cream made with REAL coconut cream.
I knew this would be a big hit with my family since all of my boys, husband included, are dessert and chocolate lovers. Well, they love anything that is sweet. As my husband’s family always says, there’s a second stomach for dessert. But probably the best part is that the kids can each make their own banana boat and getting help keeping the kids busy (and not fighting) is always great!
BBQ Banana Boats
To make the BBQ Banana Boats all you need is ripe bananas, an assortment of fillings of your choice (i.e. chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, mini M&M’s, Skor bits, etc…), Gay Lea Real Coconut Whipped cream and a barbecue.
Directions:
Place the banana down on tinfoil and slice the banana through but not all the way to the peel on the other side. Fill slit with your favourite fillings and grill on the barbecue till the fillings begin to melt. Remove from the barbecue and let cool. Remove banana from peel and top up with whipped cream (optional: sprinkle topping on whipped cream).
Of course, we all know that whipped cream goes well with pretty much any summer dessert or treat including ice-cream and strawberries. Gay Lea’s Coconut Whipped cream is convenient, smooth and the slight hint of coc0nut adds exceptional tropical flavour to your snack.
Disclosure: I am part of the Gay Lea Ambassador Campaign and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.
