A few weeks ago my family and I went to see the Harlem Globetrotters play at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga. While it was my first time seeing them, my husband has seen them a few times himself when he was a young “lad.” He was reminiscing about how he remembers the Globetrotters being the best basketball team EVER! While I didn’t know what to expect, I was excited to go and take my boys with me. I knew it would be a fun family event and it would also be a great way to introduce my preschooler to basketball.
The game did not disappoint. My son Kyle could hardly take his eyes off the court. He loved seeing the players do tricks and play goofy games with their opponents (“pantsing” was his favourite). While there is a “game” as well, it’s really not about that. It’s about the music, the tricks and the fun rules. I also loved the fact that they had a women on the team!
During intermission Kyle had a blast bouncing his new basketball up and down with the rest of the kids. He was grinning from ear to ear. I would say his introduction to basketball was a great success. It was an experience that I’m sure he’ll remember for years to come and hopefully one day, he’ll reminisce about the Globetrotters with his kids.
