Summer might be over but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop.
The sun is shining so take advantage of the great weather and head with your family to Centre Island. The journey alone, the ferry boat ride, from the newly named Jack Layton Ferry Terminal in downtown Toronto, is so much fun. On one side the lake, and on the other, Toronto’s Skyline. Bring a picnic lunch or buy food there, lay on the grass or by the water or head out on a fun bike ride. Whatever you choose to do with you family, you’re definitely in for a fun-filled day.
Historically, centre island was inhabited by wealthy Torontonians who built their summer cottages there. It was a resort destination which also included a baseball stadium. In fact, Babe Ruth hit his first professional home run here. However, in 1956, the Toronto Island became an official Toronto park to be enjoyed by all.
One of my family’s favourite things to do on the Island is go to Centreville amusement park. There are rides for almost every age. In order to help you first get oriented, go on the train which pretty much takes you around the perimeter of the amusement park. It’s suitable for all family members and it allows you to see what other great rides the park has to offer. My son’s favourite rides include the kiddie boat and any ride that’s a vehicle. There’s nothing that makes me happier than seeing my son brim with pride with a big grin his face as he goes on the rides solo. While there is no admission fee to the amusement park, you will have to purchase tickets or an all-day pass to go on the rides.
Another great attraction is Far Enough Farm. An awesome little “zoo” that consists of farmyard and exotic animals. You can easily spend a good hour just visiting with the animals.
Centerville amusement park is open on weekends in September. So make sure you go soon. For more information on how to get there, hours and additional details on the rides & attractions, visit Centerville’s website: http://www.centreisland.ca/
