A Crowd Pleasing Dip; Perfect for The Big Game

My husband and I love hosting and entertaining. We love having our friends and family over and we find almost any excuse to host. Whether it’s someone’s birthday, an engagement (ours or someone else), a holiday or a big sporting event, we send out an invite and prepare. Of course, that was all before we had our first son five years ago.

The last big party we hosted was for the Super Bowl in 2011.  Kyle was five months old and I remember him spending most of the night in the Jolly Jumper while we watched the big game and enjoyed some delicious food!

One of the biggest crowd pleasing dishes is the one that my good friend Jenny always prepares for our parties. It’s a dip that goes perfect with chips and salsa and is usually the first to be devoured. Even before all the guests arrive, the dip is usually finished off. Lucky you, I’m sharing this easy but delicious recipe (Thanks Jenny)!

But just because we don’t host big parties anymore, doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy delicious meals with our families. So whether or not you’re having a big get-together for the upcoming Super Bowl or just quietly enjoying it at home, this dip is sure to be a hit. The recipe only calls for five ingredients and it is so easy to make, your kids can help you out. Here are the details, and if you end up making it, let me know what you think.

RECIPE

Ingredients: Large (500ml) tub of Gay Lea Gold Sour Cream, Small container (250g) of soft Cream Cheese, Small pack (35g) of Taco seasoning, Salsa and grated Ivanhoe Old Sharpe Aged Chedder Cheese

Directions:

1. Mix together one pack of sour cream with one pack of cream cheese.
2. Add 1/4 of a pack (or 1/2 based on taste preference) of taco seasoning and mix
3. Spread mix on bottom of serving dish you wish to serve dip in.
4. Add a layer of salsa (select mild, medium or hot based on preference). 
5. Top off with grated cheese
6. Optional: broil for a few minutes to melt the cheese (make sure serving dish is oven safe).
7. Optional: add toppings like red / green peppers and olives

Serve with your favourite tortilla chips.

I loved using Gay Lea’s Gold Premium Sour Cream for this recipe. It’s perfect for appetizers and dips because of its soft texture, and delicious taste. Note that it is only available in Ontario. Gay Lea’s Ivanhoe Cheese is so soft, it crumbles in your hands! It also comes in a variety of flavours including Naturally Smoked Gouda and Monterey Jacks.
