The space in my home that I love to hate is my closet. It’s where I store some of my favourite pieces, but it’s also where I often look inside and think to myself “I have nothing to wear!!” The mood can change daily, and sometimes even mid-day.
Admittedly, Fall is my favourite season for fashion. I love cozy knits, earth tone colours and dressing up in layers. However, I still rely on my go-to’s for when I can’t be bothered to think too hard about what I’m wearing. That’s why I reached out to Rena Rutkauskas, Co-founder and Stylist at SmitheryStyle.com for some advice on fashion staples; specifically regarding black tops. Here’s what she had to say:
September marks the beginning of the new season of fashion. And yes, part of me is diving into the must haves for fall and drooling over the trends…but the other part of me remains drawn to my favourite staple: the black top. It’s ready for anything, always looks good and is a no-brainer. If you like a black top like I do, you also know that shopping for a new one online is met with a ridiculous number of options. Let me narrow that for you with a list of top tops that made the cut – all easily available on amazon.
- The Cold Shoulder 2. The Easy Vee 3. Something Flirty 4. Something To Say 5. The Prettiest Hem 6. Boho Flair 7. The Luxe Long Sleever 8. Off The Shoulder 9. The Hi Lo 10. Classy & Comfy 11. The Velvet Trend 12. Something Lacy
To keep your black tee desire feeling fresh, here are a few tips from my stylist friends at Smithery on how to style this staple:
- The simplicity of a black top lends itself to a statement pant. This season, try it with embroidered denim or a waxed pant.
- Swap out your warm weather jean shorts for a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans. Layer with a moto jacket (both suede and leather faux or real, are everywhere this fall) and finish with a pair of on-trend flat mules or dorsal flats.
- Transition basic summer dresses into fall with a simple black tee underneath, topping it with and a jean jacket and booties. Regardless of your fashion preferences, these designer dresses are sure to pique your interest.
