My boys and I left with much more than just sparkly nails after our visit to Glama Gal Tween Spa

If you don’t know me, you may not know that I’m part tomboy. I love to get dirty, play sports, seek thrills, and I even kept snakes and mice as pets at one point in my life. Which all came in handy when I became a mom to three boys. I may not watch professional sports as religiously or follow all of the stats or players as some men, but I can say that I’m more fearless and adventuress than most. The other part of me is a complete girly-girl! I love to get my shopping on (retail therapy IS a thing), get dressed up and I would live at the spa if I could make a living out of it. Lucky for me, I’ve been able to get my boys to enjoy shopping (for toys mostly) and they enjoy getting their nails done. They even have their own set of nail polishes just for them.
I’ve been meaning to head over to Glama Gals Tween Spa for a while to check it out and I always I figured I would do so with my nieces. However, time went on and it never happened. I finally decided to just head there with my boys. While I was sure my youngest two boys would enjoy it, I was not sure how my oldest son, Kyle, would react. While he was big into nail polish when he was younger, it all changed once he went to primary school. Besides being told that certain colours are “girl” or “boy” colours and some toys are for “girls” or “boys” only, he was also told that nail polish is for girls only! And we all know that peer influence is strong. I figured I might as well head there with all three boys and if he chooses not to get any service done, so be it.

When we arrived to the bright pink signs, my mind started racing a million miles an hour. Would Kyle run back to the car because it looked too “girly”? Would they be the only boys there and feel weird? We trekked on…

Once inside we were greeted by the friendly staff who made us feel comfortable right away. We put on flip flops and got to enjoy some delicious cupcakes and pink lemonade. So far, so good! Everyone was happy and excited, despite the pink sprinkle everywhere.

During our pedicure – yes, I got one too, we received another sweet treat. We all got to enjoy some ice-cream with gummy worms.

The staff kept my boys engaged by asking them so many great questions like their favourite colours, sports, games, favourite subject, etc… The boys loved the attention and the pampering. I enjoyed watching them get into the whole process. I was in parenting heaven. All of the other moms who were there with their daughters (yes, mine were the only boys there, at least when we were there), were gashing over how cute and awesome my boys are and that it was so great of me to bring them in. I couldn’t help but feel proud!

I think though, that the best part of our experience at the spa occurred during our manicure. Before the nail polish went on, the staff asked me to apply lotion to each boy’s hand and while I rubbed it, I could tell them one thing that I love about them. Later, each boy got a chance to do the same thing to me. It was such a touching moment both for me to get to tell each boy what I love about them specifically and for me to hear what they think about me. It also made me realize that I don’t do this enough. Sure, I tell them that I love them about 100 times a day, but I definitely do not tell them something specific and unique about them often enough. It was a touching moment and a great reminder. I’m not going to lie, it was hard holding back my tears.

Before we left I told the boys that they can each pick out two bath bombs to bring home with them – again, their favourite part! We left with a bag full of bath goodies, great looking nails, and cherished memories to last me a lifetime.

I should note that Kyle did have a play date that afternoon and he did ask me to remove his nail polish in fear of being ridiculed by his friend. I obliged but didn’t make a fuss about it. I was just so happy he was open and excited about the whole experience, never hesitating once while we were at Glama Gal. Knowing that I only have a few more years left to enjoy this experience with the youngest boys, I will definitely be heading back to Glama Gal Tween Spa soon!

Disclosure: I received the services for my boys and I for free without any expectations for anything back in exchange. However, the experience was so wonderful and unexpected in many ways, that I really wanted to write a post about it to share it with you all.

This is absolutely well deserved by my sister who has two hyper active daughters. I would love her to have a hot stone massage therapy.

[…] There were lots of different party ideas floating around, but ultimately I left the decision to my daughter. She simply adores getting manicures and pedicures, so when I suggested a spa party, she was thrilled! Glama Gal Tween Spa immediately came to mind, because it was highly recommended by many of my friends.
