Self-care! I hear about it everywhere I turn. My friends who are coaches talk about it, there are stories after stories on my Facebook feed talking about it, and I ever so often talk about it. You know why it’s talked about so much? Because it’s important!! Generally, Women take on more workload when it comes to house chores and family responsibilities. While I hope that changes, I know that a lot of it has to do with the way we are wired. Burn-out is real whether you’re a working mom, a stay at home mom or a work at home mom! Throw in winter and we’re headed for a mental and emotional storm. Taking care of yourself should be a priority. If you can’t commit to doing something for yourself daily, make a point of starting small. Maybe schedule in a “self-care” day once a month by going for a massage and once you’re more comfortable, do it weekly, and eventually, it will become second nature and you’ll start carving out “me-time” daily (i.e. fifteen minutes of daily meditations). Here are some of my favourite ways to take care of ME!
Sit & soak
Take some time to de-stress after a long busy day and focus on relaxing with a candle-lit bubble bath. It’s the perfect way I like to sit back and catch up with my favourite magazine. Add essential oils or epsom salts to your bath water and play spa-inspiring music in the background to help you enter a total state of Zen.
A day at the Spa
Nothing gets me more excited than heading out to the spa. You can make it a full day experience by finding one that has pools (steam, sauna, salt water, etc…) and even consider bringing a friend or a family member along. Book yourself a massage (bonus if you have health insurance that covers a massage by an RMT) or a full body treatment to get yourself relaxed, re-energized and glowing!
Give your body a boost with a healthy beverage
Keep your immune system protected and your body energized by drinking (hot) lemon water in the morning for a calming start to your day. Consider a healthy smoothie with extra fruits and veggies for a lunch-time boost (stay tuned for an upcoming post with an easy and delicious recipe)!
