When I was a kid, creative play usually involved something artistic such as dancing, acting, drawing or music. The importance of creative play is not lost on today’s kids. In addition to physical development, playing can promote sensory exploration, increased motor skills, mental development and new ways of thinking and problem solving. One of the most important things we can provide our kids is a variety of activities that are based on a child’s interest and ideas. That’s why, I fully support creative play through the use of technology such as the one revealed on platforms such as https://vrtodaymagazine.com/.
Last weekend, my family and I got to check out digiPlaySpace at the TIFF Bell Lightbox. The exhibit focuses on exploring our senses, playing make-believe, and textile play, all enhanced through technology and digital media. It’s such a great way to provide kids an opportunity to explore and gain a better understanding of the world around them. If you want to witness imaginative and creative play at its best, you need to check it out too!
My boys couldn’t get enough of exploring all of the different exhibits. As soon as we entered, they enjoyed digitally driving a variety of construction trucks to build castles and ice-cream houses (yes, an ice-cream house!) by playing Sago Mini on the iPads.
From there, things only got more interesting and unique. As a family, we explored outer-space by dressing up in special material and playing in front of a green screen.
My kids were then chased by dinosaurs.
Next they played professional baseball, trailed robot cars and created their own pinball machine (which happened to be our family’s pick for our favourite installation at the exhibit).
Interestingly, my family and I visited the digiPlaySpace exhibit two years ago. We really enjoyed it and I assumed this year’s exhibit would be more of the same. Surprisingly, the entire exhibit was completely different. As a family, we enjoyed it even more this time around. I highly recommend that you make the time to visit digiPlaySpace with your family. It’s very well organized and it never feels full or crowded, even when it’s at capacity. As a parent who spends a lot of time taking my kids around to busy family-friendly destinations, this was a nice change of pace. The exhibit, which features 25 installations from nine different countries, is open now through April 24th and is a great way to spend a part of your day over March Break.
If you’re looking for other great ways to explore the arts with your kids, you should check out the line-up of films that will be showcased at this year’s TIFF Kids Festival. With over 139 films from 35 countries, you’ll be sure to find a film (or two) for everyone in your family to enjoy. The event runs from April 8 to 24 and a kickoff party will be held on opening night at 5PM. Bring your family to enjoy food and fun activities including the digiPlaySpace. Ticket includes party and film screening.
Disclosure: I received compensation as part of my involvement in this campaign. However, the opinions are my own and my husband and I are still talking about how cool the exhibit was, several days later!

That looks like so much fun! Hands on, kid friendly activities are so good (for the whole family). And I love that you can get to TIFF lightbox pretty easily on the TTC – I’ll have to check this out with my kids.

It’s great how the exhibit is different each year. Michael had a great time creating with the circuits in the Mini Maker room, and that sand box was amazing. Looks like your boys had a great time 🙂

What a fantastic place to be a kid in (adults too, LOL). This generation will grow old with technology so they have to embrace it for all sorts of things, including interactive play. This is wonderful!
